Travel with Walt to Disneyland of 1961

By Keith Mahne

Imagine for a moment that the year is 1961 and you are a young child. You're sprawled out on your living room floor and watching your TV set as Walt Disney takes you to a magical place called Disneyland. Your imagination runs wild as you picture the things you could do at a place like this. If only Walt could take us and the children of today around all the kingdoms he has created. Although it's bittersweet to think of the possibilities Walt would have with today's technology, it is still great fun to travel back to the days of black and white television sets and Sunday nights with Uncle Walt. Let's travel back today and revisit Walt as he takes us on our own personal tour of Disneyland in 1961...

The Disneyland ‘61 television show we are about to enjoy originally aired on May 28, 1961. This special episode, directed by Hamilton S. Luske, features an enlarged version of the theatrical featurette Gala Day at Disneyland, with Walt Disney talking about the new Nature’s Wonderland, the upcoming expansion of the Monorail, and other Disneyland favorites. And now, let's join up with Walt and travel back to Disneyland of 1961 in the magical video below...
