Walt Disney's Last Interview 9-24-66

By Keith Mahne

I'd like to share with you Walt Disney's last radio interview from September 1966. It's from a South African radio program recorded at the Burbank Disney Studio and Disneyland between Lesley Steyn and Walt Disney. It's an interesting mixture of music and interviews that also include the Sherman Brothers and Disneyland Ambassador, Connie Swanson. Have a listen after the page break...

This interview is sort of bittersweet as you can imagine. Knowing that Walt only had less than 3 months to live, he gave it his all to the very last moment. You can hear Walt's voice is a bit weak at times and he seems a bit tired and worn out. Other times he is just his old self. Also, it appears Walt realizes his final hours are near as he ponders different moments throughout his life. Hearing this interview is really something special for me personally. I have so much love, respect and appreciation for this man who allowed the world to be kids at heart no matter how old. We sure do miss you Walt...the world needs you now more than ever.

(Actual interview begins at 06:25 after a musical introduction. Also, please be sure to pause the Disney Avenue Music Player at the top left hand corner of this page before you start the video if you are on a desktop computer. Enjoy...)
