Holiday Time at Disneyland (1962)

By Keith Mahne

We have a wonderful little film for you today that is sure to cause those warm, nostalgic, Christmas memories to come flooding in. It's an episode of the beloved Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color that originally aired back on December 23, 1962 on NBC. Grab some popcorn and a nice cup of hot chocolate and join us today as we watch the wonderful film Holiday Time at Disneyland starring the man himself, Walt Disney...

This episode of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color features a Holiday tour of Disneyland as it appeared in 1962. Since the main attraction of the Christmas Season at Disneyland was the parade, it is featured heavily in the television show. This episode also features one of the best openings of Walt getting in the Christmas spirit.

Lastly, on two occasions, you'll notice a thin man with glasses with kids (probably his real family) enter Walt Disney's segments. That's none other than Olan Soule, who's probably best remembered for voicing Batman in various cartoon shows from 1968-83.

The Christmas Parade, which premiered at Disneyland for the holiday season of 1960, lasted until 1964, when it then became the "Fantasy On Parade" featuring the marching "wooden" soldiers and those silly reindeer we all love to see. Unlike today, where the Christmas parade will run for upwards of two months, in the early 1960s the parade would start about a week before Christmas day.

And now, Disney Avenue presents the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color episode titled Holiday Time at Disneyland from 1962. Enjoy friends...

  1. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!! I have been wanting to watch this episode for the longest time, but it was never released on the WDT Collection and I could never find it. I'm hoping with the new streaming service, some of these episodes will finally be released. Really! Thank you so much!
