32 RARE Scans of the 1977 Walt Disney World 'World Magazine'

By Keith Mahne

In 1977, Walt Disney World resort guests would find a wonderful, complimentary magazine left inside their resort rooms that featured all sorts of information from every corner of the vacation kingdom of the world. This wasn't some flimsy little black and white pamphlet that they leave out now-a-days. This was a gorgeous, high quality booklet called World Magazine that featured an amazing overview of the resort, including the Magic Kingdom, other resort hotels on property, dining options, recreation activities, the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village, and so much more. Seeing this magazine today allows us to have a nostalgic look back at the Walt Disney World Resort of yesteryear...

Editor's Note: While you enjoy the World Magazine and its "nostalgic look back at the Walt Disney World Resort of yesteryear", I highly recommend listening to track number 131 titled "A Musical Souvenir of Walt Disney World - 1 Overture and Arrival" from the Disney Avenue Music Player by clicking the playlist button at the top, right-hand corner of the page. The complete "A Musical Souvenir of Walt Disney World" are track numbers 131 - 144.  If you are on a mobile device, you can find our mobile music player by clicking HERE or on the tab above. Enjoy...

They sure don't make them like this anymore...at least not the free ones! What did you enjoy reading about the most? Was it the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village? How about the one on the upcoming "World Showcase" and plans for EPCOT? Be sure to let us know in the comments below or on the Disney Avenue Facebook Page. We love to hear from you...

  1. These posts are great!
I particularly noted the line in the River Country portion that said they were gearing up for future expansion of the River Country area. Some things don't go quite as planned!

  2. I remember my parents telling me and my sister that we were going to Disney World. That year was 1977. These pictures bring back so many memories. This was a time when there was no internet. Just magazines like this one and pictures from the Wonderful World of Disney. Not knowing what each ride entailed and knowing E tickets were the best rides. Good times. Thanks for the post. Really enjoy.

  3. I LOVE these old WDW mags. My favorite part was reading about the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village (Disney Springs today). I love reading and seeing the old shopping village as it was back then. Another magical post here on my favorite Disney site, Disney Avenue! The music playing made it even more magical!!! Keep up the great work Keith

  4. I graduated from HS in Alaska in 77 and my best buddy and I flew to Seattle and picked up a used car and then spent the next 5 months driving around the US. The big highlight was the 10 days we spent in a tent at Fort Wilderness. That week left such a huge load of memories in my mind that its hard to ever look at WDW as it changes without getting all misty eyed. Its been fun to see the place grow up and mostly (not all of it..but most of it) enjoy the changes. To borrow that line from Walt "Even the trees will get bigger" and MAN have they!
