MUST SEE EPCOT Center Behind the Scenes Footage (VIDEO)

By Keith Mahne

Just as Disney promised when they broke ground on October 1, 1979, the doors of EPCOT Center officially opened on October 1, 1982, and the dawn of a new Disney era began. EPCOT Center stood as a towering achievement of American ingenuity, productivity and technology, a monumental example of what can be done in a free enterprise system and when you allow imagination to run free. The vintage EPCOT footage you are about to see is a tribute to the talents, determination and dedication of thousands of members of the Disney organization at a time when the company was bursting at the seams with creativity...

The vintage EPCOT Center behind the scenes footage you are about to see reminds me of the reason I am so passionate about the Disney Company and the Parks. When I look at it I keep thinking the same thing...every single attraction being built for Epcot is NOT based on an existing intellectual property. Everything is coming from pure IMAGINATION, and I absolutely love that. That is why I believe so many of us hardcore fans love the original Epcot and what it stood for.

Although the Imagineers continue to amaze us, we miss that passion and sense of wonder and imagination the Disney Company radiated during the Epcot days, the same wonder and imagination Walt Disney had that lead to things like Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Walt wasn't just creating theme parks, he was creating a way for us to test out new concepts for a future that promised new and exciting benefits for all using the latest technology or even inventing it if necessary. His sense of wonder and determination was contagious. EPCOT Center made you feel like anything was possible. And so, let this be a tribute to that era of the Walt Disney Company and all those that continue to carry on Walt Disney's sense of imagination and wonder...

  2. Thank you so much for your work. The "characterization" of EPCOT won't go away in the forseeable future, but there is plenty of room for a healthy dose of this original vision throughout the current park. This should be required viewing for every imagineer and executive in charge of EPCOT right now. It needs this kind of bold innovation and imagination applied to today's technologies to bring it into the next decade.

  3. Wasn't that the video shown during the EPCOT Center preview that gave visitors a sneak peak before the park's opening day?

    1. If I remember correctly I believe that some of it is. I recall pulling clips to make this from a few of the old ones. It's been a little while now.
