Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World (1977)

By Keith Mahne

Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World is a television show that originally aired on the Disney Channel on November 20, 1977. The kids from the new Mickey Mouse Club head for Florida to do a show. They set up camp at Fort Wilderness, and visit the new River Country. Because of several misadventures, their chaperone has a difficult time keeping them all friends. Cheesy songs and acting aside, this 1977 television special offers us a wonderful trip back to an early Walt Disney World in its original glory...

We are about to follow the Disco Mice of the New Mickey Mouse Club as they visit America's favorite vacation spot, Walt Disney World circa 1977! This show is truly a time capsule of the Vacation Kingdom in its former glory. Notice all the wonderful surroundings along the way like the Monorail's interior...

The old Contemporary Resort carpet...

Great views of the then-new River Country...

The Skyway...

The original Space Mountain ride vehicles and how two people could sit together...

Treasure Island...

And, of course, the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village...

There are just so many nostalgic areas showcased in this 1977 TV special that you may soon find yourself ignoring the cheesy songs and corny acting (which I personally love) and get lost in the wonderful surroundings of the early days of Walt Disney World and what it had to offer...

  1. I just found your site today(when searching about the Jungle Cruise), and happened to see your post about the mouseketeers at WDW in 1977. I was(ok, am) a huge fan, and was lucky enough to have a father that worked at the Magic Kingdom from 1970 until his retirement in 1980. Due to this, we were able to visit the park when the mouseketeers visited. I saw them perform at the Tomorrowland Terrace(not what is now Tomorrowland Terrace, but the one with the rising stage). My father had enough security clearance from his work position, that he was able to go into the tunnels and get some autographs on poster from their official record album. We saw them in the afternoon parade also. Best of all though, was they filmed the final scene of the show at the Castle forecourt a few nights later, and my dad had requested employee tickets for us to attend and be part of the 'guests' in the crowd watching them perform. Fun times!
